The
Tony Gabriel recording project is the most deeply personal of all my musical
endeavors.
The
"Walking Distance" project is the most deeply personal of all my musical
endeavors. This is a CD of all original compositions that I recorded
with my good friend, superb drummer and co-producer Bill Jaile -
to whom I am eternally grateful for turning my dream into a reality.
The recordings came out sounding just the way I heard them in my head
when they were being created. The atmosphere in the studio has
been one of complete comfort and fun, two key elements conducive to good
work.
I
have been writing songs since I was eleven years old. It’s just
something that I’ve always done, mostly for my own amusement. There’s a
certain kind of pleasure that I get from writing that I haven’t been
able to find in any other activity. This is probably because the reason
for a song’s existence in the first place is usually an emotionally
charged incident or thought, so it stands to reason that I would always
find it interesting and be passionate about it. We’ve heard it many
times before but I can attest that it truly can be therapeutic. If the
song came from a painful or negative experience the act of writing it
down somehow seems to help me move beyond it.
Bill and I are currently working on new material. Even though we have
over a dozen original songs that are ready to record we’re working on
the ones that are being created right now. We are having a great
time!
